We the people ask the federal government to Take or explain a position on an issue or policy:

Support Hong Kong people's right to strike and sanction figures suppressing basic human rights in Hong Kong.

Created on February 01, 2020

We, the people of Hong Kong, call on the US government to reaffirm Hong Kongers' basic human right to strike as outlined in Paragraph 3.5 of the Sino-British Joint Declaration of 1984. Paragraph 3.5 states "Rights and freedoms, including those...of strike...will be ensured by law in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region."

The HKSAR and Chinese governments have been blatantly disregarding our fundamental rights outlined in the Basic Law through the use of frequent and unjustified police crackdowns. We call on the US government not only to support our right to organize unions & to strikes, but also to publicly name and sanction the Hong Kong and Chinese individuals who suppress our rights outlined in the Basic Law - including our right to strike - similar to the 2012 Magnitsky Act.
